A COVID-19 Update

Hi, I’m Jay Doyle, President of St. James Healthcare.

The outbreak of COVID-19, the new coronavirus, has had a significant impact on all our lives at this point. It is in many ways unprecedented and it may have many feeling vulnerable, isolated with uncertainty about the days ahead.

While we are in unprecedented times, even for healthcare, you should know that there has been planning and anticipation of events and catastrophes of all types by St. James Healthcare and healthcare institutions across the state.  Our hospitals are woven into the fabric of our communities, caring for our most vulnerable and providing compassion and healing through difficult times and circumstances.

Like you, I am uncertain as to what lays ahead.  I am confident, however, that we will work through it.  I want you to know how proud I am of the providers, staff, and leaders who are responding to the changing needs of the community with both urgency and compassion. I’ve been impressed by the leadership and organization to anticipate and prepare for the possibilities that may lay in store.  I am grateful for their willingness to support difficult decisions that will protect the safety of our patients and our care providers who are essential to bringing about healing and wholeness.

As an organization, we understand that this is a fluid and rapidly changing time.  Actions will be taken which may create some imposition.  We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. Our top priority, however, is to ensure we provide a safe environment for our patients, providers, and staff to bring about healing.

Residents of southwest Montana should know that we remain on top of the latest information available.  St. James has the added benefit of being part of a strong health system, with a depth of expertise offering further support in such events.

If you are looking to learn more about COVID-19 across Montana please visit https://dphhs.mt.gov or call 1-888-333-0461. Our partners at OneHealth and the Montana Department of Health and Human Services have the most up to date information and processes.

I want to extend my personal thanks to those who are working on the front lines delivering care. I am grateful to those who support our care providers, patients and families including our volunteers, registration staff, those keeping the organization clean, our patients fed and ensuring the facilities are maintained.

I would also extend our thanks to those in our community who are doing all they can to help their friends and neighbors. I believe we can both express compassion while we practice social distancing.  In doing so, you reveal God’s healing love.

My thanks and prayers go out to each of you.
