Saint Joseph Hospital recently received the highest rating for quality – 3 stars – for complex heart surgeries in categories that include isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR), isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), and AVR+CABG procedures as designated by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and the National Quality Forum for 2014. When compared to national aggregate data from 1,005 participating heart surgery programs, receiving a 3 star rating in all three surgical categories places Saint Joseph Hospital in the top 1.2% of heart surgery programs in the nation.
The “3 star” rating from STS denotes the highest category of quality for cardiac surgery procedures analyzed in the STS National Database. The database itself is comprised of more than 5.5 million surgical records and represents approximately 90% of the adult cardiac surgery centers in the country.
This top-tier rating is a reflection of the talent and commitment of all members of the cardiac surgery team at Saint Joseph Hospital.
