You can withdraw from drugs or alcohol in safety and comfort with medical detoxification treatment

Patients who seek to enter our medical detoxification program are encouraged to call our Assessment and Referral Team for a phone screening and direct admission at (303) 467-4080 (9). Patients can be directly admitted from an emergency department as well, but direct admission is quicker and easier.

What substances/drugs do you detoxify people from?

We help people detoxify from alcohol, benzodiazepines, and other commonly abused drugs and pharmaceuticals. Some substances (cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, hallucinogens, opiates) do not require medical detoxification. Instead, patients may be admitted directly into our residential or outpatient chemical dependency treatment programs. Patients experiencing acute opiate withdrawal may be considered for medical detoxification on a case-by-case basis.

Why should I choose a medical detoxification program instead of a social detoxification model?

Social detoxification programs offer a supportive environment but usually offer little to no medical care or medications. Social detoxification may not be sufficient for many patients. Alcohol has some of the most dangerous withdrawal symptoms, such as seizures or even death. Withdrawal from benzodiazepines may also cause death, and opiate withdrawal (while not generally life threatening) can be so uncomfortable that even the most determined clients may give up.

The Medical Detoxification program at West Pines provides the physical and emotional support patients need to achieve detoxification safely and successfully. Patients in our medical detoxification program benefit from the aid of medications that can significantly reduce the discomfort associated with withdrawal. Patients who have a history of seizures, diabetes or other medical conditions can be assured that any complications that may arise during their withdrawal can be addressed quickly and safely by our experienced medical staff. 

What should I bring to treatment--clothing and belongings?

Patients are encouraged not to bring the following items to treatment:

• Cell phones
• Credit cards or large sums of money
• Other Valuables

If that is not possible, we have a safe on the unit where valuables can be stored.

Patients are encouraged to bring all important numbers and e-mail addresses including:

• Family
• Friends
• Insurance
• Doctor, Clinic,Surgeon
• Therapist, Counselor,Psychiatrist
• Parole/Probation officer, Case Worker
• and any person who you may need to contact while in treatment

Comfortable, casual clothing is appropriate. You may bring your own alcohol free toiletries. Make-up is not allowed on the unit.
