What to expect when you visit the ER

Thank you for choosing St. Vincent Healthcare for your emergency care needs. We are committed to providing you with safe, quality care during your visit to the Emergency and Trauma Center.

When you arrive in the ER, you’ll be assessed by a member of our emergency care staff so we can learn about your injury or illness. Following this assessment, you’ll check in at our registration desk to provide any information we need to treat you, like ordering appropriate tests. The Emergency Department uses a triage system, so you may notice other patients called before you. The severity of your injury or illness will determine the order in which you’re seen by ER staff.

Specialized emergency care

Because each person is unique, and each emergency is different, we provide specialized care to meet your needs.

Our Emergency & Trauma Center is equipped to treat a variety of traumatic injuries, including head injuries, broken bones and injuries caused by accidents or violence. Most emergency and trauma departments are identified at different levels ranging from Level I to Level V Trauma Centers, depending on the availability of specialists and specialty treatment.

According to the most recent State of Montana Trauma Registry data, for two years in a row, more patients trusted St. Vincent with their trauma care than any other trauma center in Montana.

We are fully committed to continuing our tradition of enhancing access to innovative and high-quality trauma care for the people of our region. That's why, in August of 2022, St. Vincent chose to become the first hospital in Montana to officially apply for Level I Trauma Center verification under the American College of Surgeons with a goal of becoming the State of Montana's very first Comprehensive Trauma Center in early 2024.
