Joint replacement and orthopedic surgery

If you need surgery, you’ll be surrounded by a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and others with expertise in orthopedic surgery, pain management and rehabilitation. Our orthopedic surgeons are skilled in minimally invasive techniques that lead to faster healing.

Our orthopedic care coordinator gives you a single point of contact for all your questions and needs. This person is your advocate, coordinating pre-op appointments and tests, making sure post-surgery pain is managed effectively and supporting you as you plan to return home.

The tranquil environment at St. Mary’s plays a part in the healing process. Eighth-floor patient rooms offer sweeping views of the valley and Grand Mesa. We’ve made space for family members to settle in on comfortable sleeper sofas. We offer an area where you can safely practice skills like getting in and out of a car or managing stairs.

Joint replacement

Our high volume of joint replacement surgery – total knee, hip and shoulder – means better outcomes for you. Our experience with joint replacement results in a quicker recovery with fewer complications.

We provide free classes and education to help you and a caregiver learn:

  • Safe exercises you can do before surgery
  • What to expect when you’re in the hospital
  • How to prepare your home
  • Where to borrow or purchase equipment and supplies

Because of our proactive approach, most patients return home within a few days of surgery.

Spine care

Orthopedic spine surgery is one of our specialties. Spine procedures, such as micro-discectomy and scoliosis correction, help people of all ages lead a pain-free life. See services for back and neck pain.

Following surgery, rehabilitation begins right at your bedside and continues on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Skilled physical and occupational therapists help you regain strength and mobility in a supportive environment. Learn about rehabilitation services.

Weekend warriors, student athletes and serious competitors all want to perform at their best. No matter where you fall on the sports spectrum, our specialists can help you heal from injuries and improve your fitness and performance. See sports medicine services.
