Welcome
Located in the heart of downtown Denver, Saint Joseph Hospital (SJH) is the oldest, private teaching hospital in Colorado. As a PGY-1 pharmacy residency program, we aim to produce pharmacy practitioners who are able to assume leadership roles upon graduation. The residency has a clinical focus and the resident will come away with an extensive health-system knowledge base. This residency will also provide a foundation for further training in a specialized residency or fellowship.
Pharmacists completing SJH’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency will be efficient and effective members of the healthcare team in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. They will be expected to be both competent and confident in the provision of information to fellow pharmacists and technicians, pharmacy students, attending and resident physicians, other healthcare professionals, patients and community members, and they will be advocates of patient safety within the institution.
The Residents will monitor their performance and professional development throughout the year using formal evaluation tools and will be accountable for developing professional maturity, optimizing drug therapy, and enhancing medication use policies which will increase their future marketability as a pharmacy professional.

All complete applications will be reviewed by the Residency Program Director and the Residency Advisory Committee. The candidates selected will be contacted with interview dates and time options.
Residency Program Director
Norman Kwong, PharmD, BCPS
Norman Kwong has been a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Saint Joseph Hospital for nearly 25 years. Norman received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in 1991 and then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. After receiving his Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, he completed a Specialized Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas. He's been at Saint Joseph ever since!
Norman has been the Residency Program Director since its inception in 2002. He is also a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist. Norman holds an adjoint faculty position with the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy (since 1995) and Regis University School of Pharmacy (since 2013). He was given the “Preceptor of the Year” award by the CU Class of 1999 and continues to lecture annually at both schools. Norman was honored by the Colorado Pharmacists’ Society as the Pharmacist of the Year in 2003. His primary practice area is the intensive care units.
Norman is constantly amazed and proud of the work the current and former residents continue to produce.
