Answers to Your Midwifery Questions

Q: What is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)?

A: A CNM is a registered nurse who is educated in both nursing and midwifery and who is certified through the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

Q: How is the care different with a CNM?

A: CNM's focus on education and empowering women to make healthy decisions. We encourage women to ask questions and be actively involved in the care they receive in our practice. We welcome family participation at office visits as well as for labor and birth.

Q: What services do our CNMs provide?

A: Our Certified Nurse-Midwives provide comprehensive women's healthcare including prenatal care and delivery, nutrition counseling, prenatal education, pre-conception care, postpartum care and well-woman care. We specialize in Centering Pregnancy™ care which is an innovative model of group prenatal care.

Q: What is Centering Pregnancy™ care?

A: Centering Pregnancy™ is an exciting way to provide prenatal care to women in a group setting. Women come together with other women who are expecting their babies for a two-hour prenatal visit that emphasizes education, empowerment and support. There are videos, snacks and each group takes a tour of the Center for Women & Infants at Saint Joseph Hospital. We even have a special group for teens!

Q: What if I need care from a physician due to high-risk factors?

A: Our Certified Nurse-Midwives have physician consultation available 24 hours a day. For women who need continuous high-risk care, our physicians can provide management both in the office and the hospital.

Q: Where do our CNMs attend births?

A: Our Certified Nurse-Midwives attend births at Saint Joseph Hospital, Colorado's leading baby hospital.
