Afib

We offer a wide range of atrial fibrillation (Afib) treatments so you can feel secure about your heart health. Our heart care team will work together to determine the best method of restoring your normal rhythm.

Afib treatments and services

Afib carries a risk of stroke, so we make sure you’re treated with advanced techniques to decrease the risk. You may benefit from catheter ablation, the industry standard treatment for Afib, or you may be a candidate for advanced surgical options.

Our full range of Afib treatments include:

  • Catheter ablation – Using radio waves (radiofrequency) or cryoablation (excessive cold), a thin tube is inserted via the groin or arm and is used to destroy the heart tissue that causes Afib.
  • Electrical cardioversion – Electrical shock administered to normalize irregular rhythms.
  • Left atrial appendage closure/occlusion (WATCHMAN) – Minimally invasive procedure that uses a plugging device to help prevent blood clots in the top left chamber of the heart. This procedure may be appropriate for people who do not respond well to medications.
  • Maze procedure – Surgical procedure for chronic Afib that creates a new “maze” of electrical pathways that can restore normal heart rhythm.
  • Medication

Heart arrhythmia and Afib

Any abnormal heart rhythm is called an arrhythmia. Having an irregular heartbeat means you do not have the right amount of blood continuously flowing to your heart and throughout your body. There are various abnormal heart rhythms with Afib being one of the most common.
