Volunteers make our hospitals and communities a little brighter for everyone. If you can spare some time to help others, we have a place for you! Our hospitals welcome new volunteers and work to match each person’s talents and interests to the activities best suited to them.

Before you volunteer

Before you can put on that volunteer vest and proudly wear that volunteer badge, there are a few steps you’ll need to take, including:

An interview with a volunteer services leader
A background check
Proof of vaccinations
Possibly a tuberculosis test, flu shot and other requirements to serve in a healthcare setting

To Consider

Due to the in-depth nature of the application, training process, and costs involved, we require a six-month commitment. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to a regular and consistent volunteer schedule working a four-hour shift at least twice a month. Most volunteers give one four hour shift a week.

Additionally, you must be at least 14 years old.

Once we've received your application, these are the next steps:

Volunteer Services will call you to schedule an interview with the Director and Coordinator of Volunteer Services (1 to 1.5 hours)
Background check
Two-step TB skin test and drug screening
Volunteer orientation (3 hours)
Position assignment
Site-specific training and competency assessment

How do I become a volunteer at Good Samaritan Medical Center?

Becoming a Good Samaritan Medical Center volunteer begins with completing an application packet. Contact our Volunteer Department at 303-689-5800.

Do I need to have certain qualifications if I want to be a volunteer?

We ask that volunteers are able to speak fluent English and comply with our policies and other necessary requirements—such as a background screen, TB test, and orientation.

Volunteers should also possess the following skills:

A desire to help others
Ability to deliver exceptional customer service
Enthusiasm and joy to serve others
Dependability
Able to communicate effectively

What will I be doing, and will I have contact with patients?

We have a wide variety of different volunteer assignments and strive to find a position that is a perfect fit for each volunteer accepted in to the program.

Some positions in departments such as the Emergency Department and Floor Hosts are patient-focused. We also have volunteers who visit patients with therapy dogs or the comfort cart allowing them opportunity for patient interaction.

Other volunteers work in staff-support roles in a variety of hospital departments and offices performing clerical and other support tasks.

We also have volunteers who work with hospital guests and visitors. They assist in raising funds in the Gift Shop, give directions and assistance at the welcome desk, and provide information to guests in the surgery waiting room.

How is placement decisions made?

The interview portion of the application process gives us the chance to get to know you, your availability, your interests, and your skills, and then we match these things with our open assignments. Again, we do our best to place you in an exciting and worthwhile position.

Can I change my position placement?

We want you to enjoy volunteering! We hope to find a position you like right from the start. However, if other opportunities arise, your schedule changes, or you want to try something new, changes can be made.

If I am a student, can I volunteer?

Students (both high school and college) are a significant part of our volunteer program. We offer many unique experiences to individuals interested in the medical field as well as other students looking to give back to their community and gain real-life experience.

Individuals must be 14 years old before they can begin volunteering at Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Due to the in-depth nature and cost associated with the application and training process, we do ask for a six-month commitment and a consistent volunteer schedule. We realize many students have extremely busy schedules, thus volunteering must be a priority in order to make it a worthwhile experience.
