Susan grew up in a small Midwestern town, the daughter of a pharmacist and a nurse. She moved to Colorado in 1977.
Susan came to midwifery later in her life. She began as a 4th grade teacher. When she learned about midwives, she decided to earn a nursing degree with the intent of becoming a certified nurse midwife. She became a nurse and worked in labor and delivery for ten years, then went to midwifery school. Along the way she had a midwife as her care provider who delivered her daughter and then became her mentor.
She is very passionate about her career as a midwife (now in its 20th year). She believes in women and giving them the best possible health care and pregnancy care available. She finds joy in being "with women." Susan has been a preceptor to many nurse practitioner and midwifery students over the years and strongly believes in mentoring the next generation of midwives.
