Our Team – Primary Care

We have a large network of primary care doctors with diverse experience so you can find a doctor close to you who meets your health needs.

Find a doctor for you and your family

Our online directory makes it easy for you to choose a primary care doctor or advanced practice provider, such as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. You can search by location, look for a doctor you’ve heard of, or explore the list of providers to find the one best suited to you. For your convenience, you can also schedule appointments online with many of our doctors and advanced practice providers.

Our doctors

Our primary care doctors are licensed as either doctors of medicine (M.D.) or doctors of osteopathic medicine (D.O.). Both are fully-licensed and trained doctors, who provide a full range of primary care services with slight differences in focus.

  • M.D. – Doctors of medicine practice allopathic medicine, which concentrates on the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions. An M.D. might be a little more focused on diagnosing and treating specific symptoms. For example, an M.D. might diagnose high blood pressure and prescribe medication to help lower it.
  • D.O. – Doctors of osteopathic medicine focus on the whole person and consider how all parts of the body work together in making their decisions about diagnosis and treatment. They place a special emphasis on preventing disease and typically have more training on how bones and muscles work together. For example, a D.O. might diagnose high blood pressure, prioritize finding the cause, apply alternative methods of treatment and prescribe medication, if needed.

Advanced practice providers

Our care team includes nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs), also known as Advanced Practice Providers. NPs and PAs both have advanced degrees and specialized training and provide high quality, patient-focused care. Both diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions, prescribe medications and often manage a patient's overall care.

At the practice level, there are two key differences between PAs and NPs.

  • PAs are trained to practice medicine using a curriculum modeled on medical school education. NPs are trained in the advanced practice of nursing.
  • PAs are educated in general medicine. NPs choose a population focus, e.g., family medicine.

Nurses and medical assistants

Nurses and medical assistants are an essential part of our team. They provide care and guidance, help you manage minor symptoms and conditions, conduct certain screenings, answer questions and more. These qualified care providers may be able to provide you care sooner and help contain your medical costs.

Physician groups

When you choose a primary care doctor in one of our physician groups you’re not just choosing that doctor. You’re choosing specialists your doctor can seamlessly connect you to - from plastic surgeons to heart specialists. You’re choosing the full services of our hospitals for any medical issue you or your family might have. And you’re choosing a system fully connected by MyChart so our doctors can share your medical records securely and easily.

Patient Centered Medical Home

Some of our clinics practice a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) philosophy of care, focused on five pillars of care:

  • Comprehensive care
  • Patient-centered
  • Coordinated care
  • Accessible services
  • Quality and safety

The goal of PCMH is to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare designed around your needs.
