Our Inpatient Care Team
Our inpatient care team works together to coordinate care, monitor progress and streamline treatment to help patients recover from illness, injury or surgery.
This team includes intensivists and hospitalists, as well as doctors and nurses with a range of specialties.
Intensivists and hospitalists
Intensivists are doctors who have received special training to treat patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). They focus on the overall care of these patients, rather than treating issues in specific parts of the body. Intensivists only see intensive care patients, so they are experienced in caring for people in critical condition.
Hospitalists specialize in hospital patients’ care and can serve as a primary care doctor for people without one. Because they only work in the hospital, these specialists have a deep understanding of how it operates.
Hospitalists can help patients with many aspects of care. If you don’t have a primary care doctor, or your doctor is too far away, hospitalists make sure you receive necessary healthcare services. They also can help you make decisions about your care and discuss the factors that influence your treatment. Hospitalists are well versed in medicine and are available at all times for questions.
Depending on a patient’s condition, their care team may include other specialists such as respiratory therapists, physical therapists and surgeons.
