Leo's Story

At 87, Leo figured his age was just catching up to him. His heart care team had another opinion - it was congestive heart failure. Because of Leo's age and the severity of his condition, open heart surgery wasn't an option. But thanks to a less-invasive alternative, now he's back to working the land he loves.

"I've been a farmer all my life. I still want to help my boys."

St. Vincent Healthcare is the first in the region to offer TAVR, or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement. Through this procedure, Leo's heart care team routed a new valve to his heart through an artery in his leg.

In just a few short days, Leo felt like he was given a brand new start.
