Sleep Medicine Specialty to be Offered at Holy Rosary

475x285 HRH Amanda Abrams

Miles City, MT - Sleep is the fuel for your day. Running on empty can affect your energy, ability to function and long-term health. Poor sleep can ruin your nights – and days – and affect your long-term health and well-being. For those living in eastern Montana, it is likely you used to have to make the trek to Billings to help solve these sleep issues. But starting on January 22, 2021, Holy Rosary Healthcare will be offering a traveling sleep medicine expert to help you keep your care close to home.

Sleep medicine specialist, Amanda Abrams, is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and eastern Montana native who has a comprehensive understanding of how sleep affects the body and mental health. Disorders and disturbances of sleep are widespread and can have significant consequences for patients, but Amanda is involved in each stage of your sleep evaluation: initial examination, comprehensive testing, and therapy with follow-up care.

Abrams grew up on a farm and ranch 30 miles north of Baker and spent the greater part of her early life there. Living in a rural community, she was surrounded by a close knit family and community and understands the value of having specialty services close to home.

“I am excited to be able to offer this to the community and reduce the travel burden,” she said. “Being from rural Montana myself, I know it can be difficult to plan to travel, especially during the winter months. We all know that in eastern Montana it can be 50 degrees one moment, then -30 the next and blizzarding!”

Initially, Abrams will be at Holy Rosary once a month for a day at a time. She anticipates that there will be 10 - 20 patients during each visit and hopes that the volume of days will increase when the word gets out to eastern Montana that this service is offered at Holy Rosary.

Getting help for sleep problems can make your life better on a lasting basis and Abrams is excited to help you understand results and walk you through proven steps to a good night’s rest.

If you’re dealing with sleep deprivation, insomnia, sleepwalking or are constantly tired during the day, Abrams’ expertise may be the answer to helping you sleep soundly. She will be offering a variety of sleep services to help patients overcome disorders like sleep disordered breathing, insomnia, parasomnia, and hypersomnia. Her hope is that by offering something as crucial as sleep medicine, that she can be the answer that hard working eastern Montanans need to keep them on their feet.

“It means a lot to me that I will have the privilege of providing care to the community that helped raise me to want to be a healthcare professional,” she said. “This place gave me the roots of who I am and what it means to help our neighbors like Montanans do.”
