Media Interviews, Escort and Protocols
Media Interviews and Escort
The communications teams at SCL Health, now Intermountain Healthcare, are dedicated to responding to media requests promptly. Members of the media must have a communications manager with them while on SCL Health property and should arrange an escort before arriving on campus. Escorts are required to protect the health and privacy of our patients.
Media Protocols
SCL Health policy requires that all media queries be directed to the SCL Health System’s Public Relations Department (see contact information). Public Relations must approve all requests for interviews, video, and photographs with patients, physicians or employees at SCL Health facilities in advance of scheduling.
When news crews must be dispatched immediately, the assignment editor or reporter should call the appropriate media contact and let the PR staff know a crew is on the way. News media should not set up cameras in any SCL Health or SCL Health-affiliated emergency department ambulance driveway or in any place that blocks patient access to an emergency department entrance.
In compliance with applicable state and federal laws including, but not limited to, HIPAA privacy regulations, no information can be given that violates the confidentiality, privacy, or legal rights of patients. All interviews with patients, including telephone interviews, must be approved in advance by SCL Health Public Relations.
Access to patients will be arranged if the patient or patient's guardian is willing and his/her condition permits. This is to ensure the patient's health is not adversely affected and the ability to consent to an interview is not compromised by illness, injury, or medications.
We appreciate your cooperation and ask that you respect our obligation to protect our patients' well-being and legal right to privacy.
Media Contacts
SCL Health welcomes the opportunity to work with local, national, and international media outlets. We are always available to respond to your questions and help support your newsgathering efforts.
