Lutheran Replacement Hospital Completion Slated for Fall 2024

Lutheran Replacement Hospital

If you haven’t passed by the site at Clear Creek Crossing lately, the Lutheran  replacement hospital has passed a couple of construction milestones.

A recent decision by the SCL Health Board of Directors has directed us to build out some of the planned shell space to add even more flexibility in the number of available inpatient beds. This will allow us to slightly increase the number of beds, all of which can be converted to ICU beds in the event of future need, such as another pandemic.

Once complete, the capacity for inpatient, ER, OR and other services will still be similar to the capacity we now have at the current hospital.

This also means that the topmost steel beam will be raised onto the structure in August, in what is called a “topping off” milestone. After that, the entire building will begin to be enclosed and interior work can start in earnest.

We are well on our way to creating the hospital of the future in Wheat Ridge, with better access, even more efficiency and a more flexible design to meet future healthcare needs.

In early April, SCL Health and Intermountain Healthcare expect to finalize a merger agreement begun last year. During the two-year transition process, our logo may change, but our mission and our commitment to building a brand-new replacement hospital remain the same. Lutheran Medical Center plans to deliver high-quality care, dedicated to patients and the community for many years to come.

As the hospital building takes shape, the rest of the first phase of the medical campus will be built out, to include a parking garage and the first medical office building, which will break ground in the coming months.

The current, legacy campus will remain largely as it is until the move to the new site. After the move, Lutheran Hospice at Collier Center will remain on the legacy campus, as will the current medical office buildings.

West Pines Behavioral Health will relocate to a new site that has not yet been determined. SCL Health, in partnership with Acadia Healthcare, is building a new 144-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital to serve the northwest metro community, with expanded access to inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. We anticipate this facility will open in 2023.

Lutheran Medical Center has an ongoing mission to care for Jefferson County and West Denver families, and it always will.
