“Watching a patient that I took care of, when he was severely sick, walk out the doors with his family -- it brings me to tears,” said Joey Trawick, Registered Nurse on St. Vincent Healthcare’s COVID-19 Unit. “Seeing him cheered on by doctors and other nurses as he left was incredible. This is why I do this job.”
And yet, Traywick hasn’t always been a nurse. His first career was as an actor in the entertainment industry. But about 15 years ago, he felt a calling to serve others and made the switch over to healthcare. He pursued a nursing degree and has been healing and putting smiles on patients’ faces ever since. His passion to help others led him to the COVID-19 Unit at St. Vincent Healthcare.
“Caring for these patients is something I’m meant to do. I truly believe this is where God has placed me to be the hands and feet of Christ. Every time I enter my patient’s room, I know I may be the only person they get to see face to face for a little while, so I ask myself, ‘How can I make this interaction really count?’” said Traywick. “I also feel lucky that St. Vincent Healthcare worked quickly and diligently to develop specific protocols and processes around our COVID-19 response, so I felt like my team and I were fully prepared to continue providing safe care to our patients.”
Providing high quality, safe care is the top priority at St. Vincent Healthcare. In fact, St. Vincent is the only hospital in Montana to be recognized as a 100 Top Hospital by IBM Watson Health and, for the second year in a row, is the only hospital in the region to receive a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). So when COVID-19 was deemed a pandemic in March 2020, St. Vincent Healthcare already had a nationally recognized, strong foundation in providing the safest and highest quality healthcare to its community.
“We are honored to be recognized nationally for the care we are providing to our patients,” said Steve Loveless, St. Vincent Healthcare President. “These awards are the result of the hardwork and dedication of our medical providers and associates. I am humbled by their exceptional integrity, drive for excellence, and commitment to our mission of revealing and fostering God’s healing love by improving the health of the people and communities we serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.”
On July 29, St. Vincent Healthcare held a press conference to recognize the exceptional care that has helped earn these honors. View the media coverage below:
