BROOMFIELD, COLO. – (Feb. 27, 2018) – Today, SCL Health announced that Lutheran Medical Center and Saint Joseph Hospital have achieved the Healthgrades 2018 America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™, placing them in the top 1 percent of more than 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.
Good Samaritan Medical Center has achieved the Healthgrades 2018 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™, placing it among the top 2 percent of hospitals nationwide based on the same criteria. All three hospitals also received the 2018 Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence Award™, which is a direct contributor to the Top Hospitals award and was announced publicly in January.
“SCL Health is pleased to have its three largest Denver-area hospitals recognized for quality clinical performance and patient outcomes,” said SCL Health CEO Lydia Jumonville. “Clinical quality, safety and patient experience are the foundation of our ministry excellence, and it would not be possible without the commitment to quality and contributions of our associates and physician partners.”
SCL Health has three of America’s 100 Best Hospitals in 2018 – more than any other healthcare system in Colorado.
From 2014 through 2016, patients treated in hospitals achieving Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™ had, on average, a 26.2 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.* During this same period, if all other hospitals, as a group, had performed at the level of America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™ recipients across these 19 procedures and conditions, 179,464 lives could potentially have been saved.*
“As consumers take an active role in managing their health, they can have confidence that hospitals that have achieved the America’s 50 Best Hospital Award™ stand above the rest,” said Brad Bowman, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend the recipients of both the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™ and the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award for delivering exceptional quality care to their patients.”
The 50 recipients of the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award™ are distinguished for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2018 study period (2014-2016), these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures —as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).
