Louis Capponi, MD, Named Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer for SCL Health

BROOMFIELD, COLO. — (December 5, 2017) – SCL Health, a faith-based, regional provider of nonprofit healthcare services, has appointed Louis J. Capponi, MD, FACP, as Vice President and Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO). He joins SCL Health from Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where he served as CMIO and a practicing staff physician since 2014.


In this role, Dr. Capponi will oversee clinical information and technology systems to provide safe, efficient, high-value and highly reliable clinical care to SCL Health patients, and to improve the experience for providers and associates.

Dr. Capponi is a general internist who aims to improve health through information technology. At Cleveland Clinic, he focused on using health information technology in innovative care models while promoting increased usability and safety. From 2004 to 2014, he held roles of Enterprise-wide CMIO and Assistant Vice President for Clinical Information Systems for New York City’s municipal hospital system, NYC Health + Hospitals. Prior to his work in informatics, he served as a Medical Director for Gouverneur Healthcare Services.

Dr. Capponi received his undergraduate and medical education at New York University. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Clinical Informatics, Dr. Capponi is a fellow in the American College of Physicians, and has held faculty positions at NYU School of Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He was recently named to the Becker’s Hospital Review list of 50 Hospitals and Health Systems CMIOs to Know in 2017.
