BROOMFIELD, COLO. (October 11, 2017) – SCL Health is collaborating with ridesharing company Lyft to make non-emergency transportation services available to patients facing transportation barriers. The agreement will provide an additional resource for SCL Health’s Denver-area patients by making convenient and reliable transportation available, furthering SCL Health’s mission to improve the health of the people and communities they serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
“Many of the patients we serve rely on public transportation, which can make accessing medical care challenging,” said Peter Kung, Vice President of Innovation and Virtual Health for SCL Health. “Our collaboration with Lyft allows us to provide an additional resource for SCL Health’s most vulnerable patients by helping them reach the care they need.”
The service will first be made available to established patients at SCL Health’s care sites in Colorado’s Front Range, with locations including Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver; Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge; Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette; Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton; and Front Range physician clinics. Through the new service, care teams will be able to identify patients who are eligible for a ride with Lyft, either on demand or in advance.
“Helping patients get to or from our clinics and hospitals is a simple and critical step in improving health outcomes,” said Kung. “This initiative furthers our mission and our efforts to create an exceptional experience at an affordable cost. We’re excited to work with Lyft to help the patients and communities that need it most.”
“At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation,” said Gabe Cohen, Lyft Denver General Manager. “Together with SCL Health we’re providing a safe, reliable and accessible transportation option to patients in the Denver area who are facing transportation barriers. This makes healthcare more accessible and ultimately enhances the quality of life for people in these communities.”
SCL Health and Lyft plan to expand transportation services to additional sites in the near future.
