The Holy Rosary Healthcare (HRH) Foundation is pleased to announce the 2015 recipient of the Millie & Ken Hom Nursing Scholarship — Bailee Jo Fink. This $2,500 scholarship will aid Bailee on her educational journey as she works to become a Registered Nurse, one of the world’s most trusted professions.
Bailee is in her second year at Miles Community College and works at the Sidney Health Center as a CNA, where she assists primarily in the Labor & Delivery and Med/Surg units. In both departments, she carries a large amount of responsibility — from taking vital signs and charting, to performing discharge tests and assisting new parents.
Raised on a farm near Lambert, Mont., she has always known the importance of providing healthcare services in rural areas. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in nursing, her goal is to return to eastern Montana to work as a nurse in a rural hospital.
The Millie & Ken Hom Nursing Scholarship program launched in 2005, when Miles City resident, Ken Hom, established the scholarship to honor his late wife Millie, a nursing pioneer. He partnered with the HRH Foundation to establish an endowment fund, which, for eight years, has provided nursing students with over $25,000 in valuable scholarships and professional opportunities.
The scholarship program has a competitive application process; the winner is chosen by an independent panel of judges. To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in a college nursing program, be pursuing an associate, bachelor, or master’s degree in a nursing-related field, have 12 or more months of residency in eastern Montana, maintain at least a 2.75 GPA, and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.
