Truven Health Analytics™ 15 Top Health Systems demonstrate better outcomes than most peers
Denver (April 22, 2015) – SCL Health’s three Denver metro hospitals have been collectively recognized as one of the 15 Top Health Systems in the country by Truven Health AnalyticsTM, a leading independent firm that evaluates health systems.
Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, and Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette (formerly part of Exempla Healthcare) were together named one of 15 Top Health Systems in the nation. Health systems on Truven’s list generally outperformed their peers in a variety of important ways, including saving more lives and causing fewer complications.
“We know firsthand the dedication that our nurses, physicians and associates bring to the job every day to ensure our patients have the best experience and outcomes possible, and we are thrilled to see their performance recognized in such an important way,” said Mike Slubowski, President & CEO of SCL Health. “Truven’s standards set the bar very high, and it is truly a privilege to be counted among this select group of high performers.”
Based on Truven Health Analytics’ analysis of independent and objective public data, SCL Health’s Denver hospitals together ranked as one of the five best medium-sized health systems (those generating between $750 million and $1.5 billion) in the nation.
The 2015 Truven Health 15 Top Health Systems study analyzed data from 341 health systems and 2,841 member hospitals to identify 15 U.S. health systems that achieved superior performance based on a composite score of nine measures of care quality, patient perception of care, episode-of-illness cost and operational efficiency.
Generally, the 15 Top Health Systems outperformed peer systems by:
- Saving more lives and causing fewer patient complications
- Making fewer patient safety errors
- Following industry standards more closely
- Providing a lower cost per care episode
- Receiving higher marks for patient rating of care
- Releasing patients more quickly
The full analysis, including specific scores for SCL Health’s Denver hospitals, can be found in the 15 Top Health Systems Study Overview, listed under Exempla Healthcare.
This is the second time SCL Health’s Denver metro hospitals have been recognized as one of the 15 Top Health Systems.
