SCL Health and our many hospitals may best be known for the care we provide and the community contributions we make, but our full economic impact in the places we serve tends to get overlooked.
Our health system was recently ranked the No. 2 employer in the entire Denver metro area by the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. We are home to more associates here than well-known companies, like United Airlines, CenturyLink and Lockheed Martin.
With 8,280 associates in the region, we are an important contributor to one of the most vibrant metro areas in the U.S. Included in that number are our associates at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Lutheran Medical Center, Saint Joseph Hospital, Mount Saint Vincent, System Services and employed physician practices. We are not the only healthcare provider near the top – HealthONE came in first and Centura Health ranked third.
While Denver may be our largest market, we are the top or one of the top employers in our other markets as well. Add to that the additional impact we create when we undergo capital projects, and our economic contribution grows even more.
For example, our recently completed $623 million Saint Joseph Hospital was the largest construction project in Denver last year.
When our founding Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth set out to help our communities some 150 years ago with much-needed services, they would never have thought about modern-day issues like employment rates and economic development. However, this has become yet another way we positively impact the people and communities we serve.
