How is abdominal surgery performed?
There are a few types of abdominal surgery we often perform.
In open surgery, your surgeon will make an abdominal incision large enough to see your organs. After operating on the abdominal organ, he or she will close the incision with sutures or staples.
In a laparoscopic surgery, your surgeon will make several tiny incisions. He or she then inserts instruments through them using long, hollow tubes attached to a camera. The camera allows him or her to get a clear view of your internal organs.
Laparoscopic surgery, or minimally invasive surgery, is not possible for all conditions or for all patients.
