Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgery treats some of the most serious conditions of the circulatory system. Our surgical team uses the latest techniques to repair veins and arteries and prevent more serious complications.

Conditions we treat with vascular surgery

Some vascular conditions are serious enough to require surgery. Our surgical team treats conditions such as:

  • Carotid artery disease
  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm

Surgeries we use to treat vascular conditions

When possible, we offer minimally invasive procedures, such as stenting, to reduce the need for surgery and shorten the recovery time.

Vascular surgeries offered at SCL Health include:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair – Typically a grafting procedure to repair a bulging aorta.
  • Carotid endarterectomy – Surgical removal of plaque from the carotid artery, reducing the risk of stroke.
  • Carotid stenting – Inserting a thin metal mesh coil to help blood flow through the artery.
  • Endovascular aortic repair (EVAR/TEVAR) – Less invasive surgery to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
  • Peripheral bypass surgery – A grafting procedure using a portion of blood vessel from another part of the body to bypass the blocked or narrowed portion of artery.
  • Ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm repair – Emergency surgery done when an aneurysm has ruptured into the abdominal cavity.
  • TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) - This less invasive stenting technique for stroke prevention mitigates complications seen with carotid artery disease management, by direct access and it’s neuro protection system.
  • Varicose vein surgery – A laser or radiofrequency energy is used to deliver heat to destroy the wall of the varicose vein or surgically remove veins.
