Detection and diagnosis
Because symptoms of leukemia and lymphoma can mimic those of other illnesses, it’s always a good idea to talk with your doctor if you’re experiencing fatigue, weakness, fever, recurrent infections, swollen lymph nodes, lack of appetite or other symptoms that are unusual for you. If your doctor refers you for testing, we’ll work quickly to get a diagnosis. You may be sent for blood tests, a bone marrow test, or a biopsy to ensure we have a clear and complete understanding of your illness. A pathologist, a doctor who specializes in diagnosing diseases, will look at your cell samples to identify the presence of cancer.
Based on these test findings, you may need additional procedures, such as a lumbar puncture, or imaging services like CT scans, PET scans and X-rays, to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
