Charity is certainly greater than any rule. Moreover, all rules must lead to charity. – St. Vincent de Paul
Community Benefit and Community Health Improvement
Inspired by our faith, SCL Health addresses the most serious health-related needs of those who are poor and vulnerable. In 2015, SCL Health contributed more than $222.4 million in community benefit and touched more than 295,898 lives.* How? By working together with providers, employees, partners and members of the community to break down barriers and enhance access to care, greatly improving the overall health of the communities we serve.
*Lives touched summarizes the number of people reached through all Community Benefit activities – health services, education, research, screenings, etc.
As our mission states, “We reveal and foster God’s healing love by improving the health of the people and the communities we serve” and in order to do this we have regularly participated in Community Health Needs Assessment surveys to identify the ongoing and changing needs of the community.
In Mesa County the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) is conducted by the Mesa County Health Department and included the collaborative effort of many organizations and providers in our community, including St. Mary’s Hospital & Medical Center. Click here to download the reports:
We continuously assess the needs of the community through close working relationships and partnerships with service agencies in the community, and by evaluating state and county health statistics. CHNA’s were also conducted in 1998, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2015.
