We offer services for most types of surgeries, so you don’t have to travel long distances to larger cities and can recover where you’re most comfortable. The St. James Healthcare surgery team brings decades of experience to your care. For your safety, all our surgery staff are certified in ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) and PALS (pediatric advanced life support).
Spine navigation
If you are a candidate for spine surgery, our neurosurgeon at St. James Healthcare performs procedures using a special intraoperative CT scanner. This advanced imaging device ensures that doctors have a clear view of your spine while surgery is taking place.
Laminar air flow
Not only do we offer a high level of technology and expertise, we also take special precautions to keep you safe and prevent infection. Our surgical suites feature laminar air flow, a system of processing the air that reduces the chance of surgical site infection.
Surgical specialties
You may need surgery for any number of reasons. Perhaps you were in a bad accident or have just received a cancer diagnosis. You could have a loved one who has a GI issue or a heart concern. Any of these conditions may need a surgical procedure.
In addition to general surgery, which treats a broad range of conditions, our surgical services include:
- Orthopedic surgery, including hip replacement, knee replacement, shoulder surgery and orthopedic neck and spine surgery
- Adult and pediatric urological surgery
- Gynecologic surgery
- Vascular and thoracic surgery
- Oral/maxillofacial surgery
Types of Surgery
At one time having surgery meant having to stay in the hospital a few days. Today, advancements in minimally invasive procedures, pain control and anesthesia often make it possible to go home the same day.
Technology has transformed surgical care. Often you can avoid the need for large incisions or long healing times. Some surgeries are inpatient, meaning we admit you to the hospital for recovery and monitoring. Others are outpatient, or ambulatory, allowing you to go home the day of your procedure. Your doctor will determine the best approach for you, based on your diagnosis and health needs.
