Alwin F. Steinmann, MD, FACP

Chief of Academic Medicine

Dr. Steinmann came to Saint Joseph Hospital in October, 2010 as the new Chief of Academic Medicine and Designated Institutional Official for the residency programs. He previously worked at Albany Medical College, where he was on faculty for 23 years and served as the internal medicine residency program director for 13 years. Dr. Steinmann cites the high quality of the residency programs and Saint Joseph’s commitment to the graduate medical education mission as key factors in accepting this new position. He and his family were also attracted by Denver’s great climate and nearby recreational opportunities. He is an active member and fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 2011 Dr. Steinmann was elected to the national Council of the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM). He was later elected President of APDIM for the 2014-2015 academic year and serves on the Board of Directors for APDIM’s parent organization, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine. His areas of academic interest and publication include medical education, health policy and the financing of graduate medical education.

In his free time Dr. Steinmann enjoys the Colorado outdoors while jogging, fly fishing, biking, or traversing mountain slopes on a pair of skis.

Lori Walton

GME Generalist 

Lori came to SCL Health in August of 2004 from a Home Health Care Agency in Denver to the Performance Excellence and Quality Department at Saint Joseph Hospital. After spending a few years there, she became the Obstetrics and Gynecology Program Administrator, and stayed in that position for 10 years. As hard as it was to leave the Ob/Gyn residents and faculty, she moved to the GME department as the GME Generalist to further her own personal growth. Lori brings extensive administrative experience, a profound knowledge of how Graduate Medical Education works, and is willing to help all. When not at work she enjoys spending time with her three children and two grandchildren. Other interests include indoor soccer, sand volleyball, camping, fishing, and spending time with her dogs.
