Pregnancy Services

Certified nurse-midwives offer personalized care, outstanding outcomes, and a wide range of pregnancy care and birth options for expecting families.

Nurse-midwives are there to support and care for mothers, their partners, and families from the early stages of pregnancy, through labor and delivery, and into the first phase of post-partum care.

Our philosophy of care focuses on providing education and support that empowers women. Nurse-midwives do not make decisions for women but are there to provide the right support and information so mothers can make their own informed choices about the care they receive before, during, and after pregnancy and labor.

What we offer

It may seem that you see your provider more often than your closest friends during pregnancy. It’s just to make sure that you and your baby are healthy.

A pregnancy is divided into three phases, called trimesters. Each trimester has its own significant milestones. The first trimester is the most fragile period, during which all major organs and systems are formed. Most birth defects and miscarriages occur during the first trimester. During the second and third trimester, the fetus is fully formed and grows and matures rapidly.

We provide a full range of healthcare services, including:

Prenatal appointments

Depending on your overall health and whether there are complications, the frequency of your prenatal visits may be different than this typical schedule:

Weeks 4 to 28: You’ll visit your doctor or midwife once a month.
Weeks 28 to 36: Get ready for twice-monthly visits.
Weeks 36 to delivery: You’re coming around to full term and will have weekly appointments.
Referrals, as necessary, to specialists who are among the nation’s best.

Vaccinations

If it’s flu season, or if you’re behind on vaccinations, you may be offered a:

Flu vaccine from October through March.
Tdap vaccine, which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough (pertussis). Pertussis is dangerous for babies and is usually passed to them by their parents.

At some of our locations, residents are part of your care team. Residents are doctors who work alongside our obstetric-gynecologic faculty to complete three years of training in treating patients.

Maternal-fetal medicine care

Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are OB-GYNs with specialized training in high-risk pregnancies. If your pregnancy is considered high-risk, and you’re already seeing an OB-GYN or midwife, they’ll work side-by-side with a maternal-fetal medicine specialist to minimize your risks and help you achieve the healthiest pregnancy possible.

Screenings

How often will you see your little one on an ultrasound? What is a Doppler and what does it check for? When do you take the glucose tolerance test to determine if you have gestational diabetes?
