If you are looking for someone to provide you with physical and emotional support and care throughout your pregnancy and delivery, our nurse-midwives are the perfect match. They will work with you to create a personalized birth plan and be with you every step of the way.
Who we are
Our certified nurse-midwives specialize in one area: pregnancy and childbirth. So you know you and your family are getting the most specialized care for this special time. Our nurse-midwives all hold master’s degrees in nursing and certifications in nurse-midwifery. Our nurse-midwifes are here to support moms and families from the early stages of pregnancy, through labor and delivery and into the first phase of post-partum care.
Philosophy of care
Our philosophy of care focuses on education and support that empowers women. Nurse-midwives do not make decisions for women but are there to provide the right support and information so mothers can make their own informed choices about the care they receive before, during and after pregnancy and labor.
Centering Pregnancy™
Centering Pregnancy™ is a group-based approach to prenatal care that combines physical assessments with time for discussion and learning about pregnancy, birth and babies. Groups consist of 10-12 women and their partners who will all have their babies around the same time. Group prenatal care begins when you are 16-20 weeks pregnant, and continues throughout your pregnancy.
The Certified Nurse-Midwives at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver offer Centering Pregnancy™ as an option for all expecting mothers.
Benefits of Centering Pregnancy™ Groups
Mothers-to-be have an opportunity to meet other pregnant women and make new friends
Centering groups often allow mothers to spend more time with their midwife
Centering Pregnancy™ can allow mothers and families to be more active in their prenatal care
Let your nurse-midwife know if you are interested in joining a Centering Pregnancy™ group. Groups start frequently and you will be invited to join a group with other women who are due around the same time as you.
American College of Nurse Midwives "2020 Triple Aim Best Practice" Recipient'
The Saint Joseph Certified Nurse-Midwife practice received the 2020 Triple Aim Best practice awards from the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM). The Triple Aim achievement is given to practices that meet the Institute for Healthcare Improvement metrics of improving patient experience, reducing the cost of care and improving the health of populations. Data including breastfeeding rates, low preterm birth and cesarean rates and financial information is reported annually to ACNM. The information is evaluated in order to identify high quality processes and outcomes from birth centers and certified nurse-midwife practices. In 2020 only 53 practices across the country were designated as Triple Aim Best Practices, and only two were in Denver which was the Birth Center of Denver and Saint Joseph Hospital Certified Nurse-Midwife practice.
