An angiography is a type of X-ray that uses a special dye (called a contrast). The dye is inserted into the body through an IV tube to track how blood moves through your veins and arteries. If there is a blockage, the dye helps neurologists see its size and position so we can create a treatment plan.

CT scans (CAT scans) give doctors a clear look at your body's organs, tissues and bones. Depending on the type of test being performed, you may be given a contrast dye to improve image quality.

Your neurologist may use an EEG, which uses metal discs gently attached to your scalp, to measure your brain's activity. This noninvasive test helps doctors diagnose seizures, brain diseases and tumors.

If your symptoms include weakness or impaired muscle strength, your doctor may order EMG testing. During this minimally invasive procedure, a thin electrode is inserted through the skin into the muscle. Then your doctor will evaluate the electrical activity of that muscle.

EP testing uses two sets of electrodes to assess hearing or sight, especially in infants and children. It’s also used to diagnose optic nerve disorders and tumors or other brain and spinal cord conditions.

Magnetic resonance angiography uses MRI technology to examine the blood vessels throughout the body. As with other imaging tests, MRA helps neurologists diagnose potential disease, blockages or damage in and around those vessels.

An MRI produces 3-D images of your body using magnetic fields and computer technology. It is particularly helpful to diagnose brain, brain stem, spine, spinal cord and spinal nerve conditions.
