“Our in-home team has been like glue for us, but glue that is soft and loving and optimistic and joyful. They have been a steady source of comfort and guidance when we needed it so much.” – In-Home Parent

In Home Treatment

Mount Saint Vincent's in-home program provides family-based, trauma-informed therapeutic services to families with a young person living in their home between the ages of two and 12 years of age experiencing various behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs.

The program focuses mainly on supporting the family unit and determining how environmental changes can be created to help the health and happiness of both the child and the adult living in the home.

A lot of attention is given to regulation, safety, and coping tool development for everyone in the home to strengthen the inner workings of the family. Education and in-the-moment coaching is also provided to develop an ability to implement different interventions and strategies when a staff member is not in the home with the parent. The Mount Saint Vincent team also helps build structure and routine in the house, strengthens family communication, initiates safety planning and connects families with other support resources in the community.

The in-home program staff comes to you, so they can provide therapy and coaching in the real-life environment to support real-life change for the family and longer-lasting change following services. The Mount Saint Vincent team partners with the parent to develop goals for services that prioritize concerns while respecting the family's specific values and needs. The parent is the expert on the child and family.

The role of the Mount Saint Vincent team is to provide comprehensive and collaborative support to promote the family's overall wellbeing. Because therapy is an active process, all family members are asked to be actively involved, honest, open, and committed to the process.

The program's flexibility allows the ability to work with a child and family in various settings and methods depending on specific needs. While most sessions are held in the home, sessions can also be held in the community to support a child's particular goals, such as building social interaction skills or building increased transition tolerance. Non-traditional hours for the sessions are available and most sessions are held after school to provide support for the family during their routine when the child is usually home.

This family-based program provides services in various methods to address a family's specific goals, including individual time with a child, time focused on supporting sibling or whole family interaction, and individualized time with a parent as a caregiver. Two team members are usually assigned to work with a family to provide more comprehensive care.

Therapists and behavior coaches are certified in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention to provide specialized care to meet a child's and family's individual needs.

The program serves families in the Denver Metro area within 25 driving miles of the Mount Saint Vincent Campus (4159 Lowell Blvd., Denver, CO). Sessions are two to three hours long and families are typically seen twice a week, once by each team member for four to six hours of services per week. Additional hours may be added temporarily during crises and challenging times.

The objectives of the in-home program are to prevent out-of-home placements and support children who are transitioning from foster care or residential treatment. Families are enrolled in the program for an average of eight months, and the length of service is determined by the needs and goals of each family. 24/7 crisis support is also offered through the Mount Saint Vincent crisis phone line.
