Join our team of compassionate caregivers
Charity is certainly greater than any rule. Moreover, all rules must lead to charity. – St. Vincent de Paul
Inspired by our faith, SCL Health addresses the most serious health-related needs of those who are poor and vulnerable. In 2017, SCL Health contributed more than $259 million in community benefit and touched more than 295,898 lives. How? By working together with providers, employees, partners and members of the community to break down barriers and enhance access to care, greatly improving the overall health of the communities we serve.
*Lives touched summarizes the number of people reached through all Community Benefit activities – health services, education, research, screenings, etc.
How we provide community benefits
The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth found creative ways to provide healthcare in their communities more than 150 years ago, and SCL Health continues that work today – with the same passion and strength and a lot more technology and connectedness. Like many Catholic-sponsored health systems, SCL Health uses methods developed by the Catholic Health Association to track how we help the public through our hospitals and clinics. These programs and services include:
- Community-building activities and operations
- Community health services
- Health professions education
- Subsidized health services
- Uncompensated charity care

Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs)
The CHNAs help us identify the biggest obstacles facing our communities and create programs to address them. We remain faithful to the charitable spirit of our founding sisters by providing free and discounted health services, and we are leading the way in our communities through health education, preventive healthcare and chronic-condition management that will provide lasting and meaningful change for generations to come.
