We specialize in making a high-risk situation less stressful for you, your baby and your family.

Who we are

For women with high-risk pregnancies or who are experiencing a pregnancy with obstetric, medical, surgical or genetic complications, having a caring and compassionate expert to turn to is important. Lutheran’s Maternal Fetal Medicine is here to provide specialized care and the information you need before, during and after your pregnancy.

We work closely with your primary care physician or regular obstetrician to ensure you—and they—are well informed about your care and your growing family’s health needs.

A referral from your physician is required to be seen in our specialty clinic.

Why choose our clinic

Whether your risk is during your pregnancy, during labor and delivery or during your post-partum period, our specialists are here to care for the unique needs of your growing family. It is our mission to provide comprehensive assessment and therapy for high-risk pregnancies by collaborating with a team of perinatologists, genetics counselors, ultrasonographers, neonatologists and nurse specialists.

Lutheran’s Maternal Fetal Medicine is affiliated with Lutheran Medical Center, one of the city’s leading hospitals for mothers with high-risk pregnancies. This gives you confidence in knowing your medical care is in the hands of men and women dedicated to delivering top-level care.

Philosophy of care

We are specialists in the care and treatment of women who are experiencing high-risk pregnancies. This includes those in which the life or health of the mother or her unborn child are at risk. Working with you and with your primary obstetrician, we look for any potential needs and create a care plan designed to address them. To do so, we use the best imaging equipment and the latest techniques available; allowing our expert providers to deliver treatments and therapies even while the baby is still in the uterus.

Our mission is to facilitate the best possible outcomes for both you and the child or children you carry.

When you are seen in our maternal-fetal clinic as a patient, you can view your imaging and lab results through MyChart.

Maternal genetic counseling

Preconception and prenatal counseling is available to help you understand your options, including whether to proceed with prenatal screening and testing. Maternal and paternal risk factors are assessed to determine if either parent could be a carrier of a genetic disorder. This includes a review of family history and factors such as ethnicity that can indicate risk for certain birth defects or diseases. In addition, counseling is available for patients who received abnormal results.
