Dr. Buikema is a proud eight-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, where she served as a Battalion Surgeon at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii and a General Medical Officer in Maryland, Virginia and Hawaii. It was during her time in the Navy that she was introduced to the field of Occupational Medicine and she ultimately decided to pursue a residency in the field at The University of Colorado-Anschutz. She also completed a Certificate in Total Worker Health at the University of Colorado School of Public Health. Dr. Buikema completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Colorado-Boulder and completed a Master in Public Health at The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She served more than two years in The Peace Corps in West Africa and worked for The United Nations, The State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development before going to medical school.
She enjoys spending time in the beautiful Colorado mountains and foothills with her family and friends.
