Dr. Bergen is a fellowship trained hematologist and medical oncologist who earned his bachelor's and medical degree from University of Colorado. He completed residency training in internal medicine, and fellowship training in medical oncology and hematology, also at University of Colorado. Dr. Bergen is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Prior to joining Lutheran Hematology and Oncology, Dr. Bergen was a member of several Colorado oncology and hematology practices including holding the position of Clinical Research Director for St. Mary’s Regional Cancer Center in Grand Junction, CO.
With each patient, Dr. Bergen takes all potential care pathways into consideration with the preferences of the patient and their family. He believes in open communication to focus on developing individual care paths one patient at a time, treating patients the way he likes to be treated when he is a patient. Dr. Bergen firmly believes in clinical trial involvement because treating cancer the old-fashioned way just is not good enough. He practices medicine because it is exciting to be a part of the rapidly changing world of medicine, but mostly he enjoys meeting people, learning from them, and going the extra mile to ensure timely and appropriate care.
