Find a Doctor Search Information
SCL Health Find a Doctor Search Methodology
Scope and Limitations of the Search:
The SCL Health Find a Doctor Search (FAD) is offered to all sclhealth.org website visitors to assist in helping consumers and patients identify providers (physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapists, registered dietitians and other medical professionals) that match their unique search criteria.
The search includes both providers who are employed by SCL Health as well as community healthcare providers who hold hospital privileges at an SCL Health care site and are credentialed by the hospital. Other non-credentialed physicians in regions surrounding the hospitals are not covered by the Find a Doctor tool on the SCL Health website.
Who May Participate:
Online scheduling is available with select SCL Health physician-employees of SCL Health only and even then, only with respect to those physicians who accept online scheduling and use EPIC and MyChart.
A listing in the SCL Health Find a Doctor tool is offered free-of-charge to all credentialed providers at SCL Health care sites (hospitals) who are on active status and elect to be listed online.
Providers who do not maintain active status on the medical staff or have a lapse in their licensure will not be eligible to be listed online.
How the Search Works:
When a site visitor performs a search for a provider by name, the matching results are displayed in a type-ahead style for the user to select the appropriate provider name listed. If a site visitor chooses to search by specialty, the Find a Doctor tool offers five categories from which to choose; family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrician, OB/Gyn or Specialty provider. If specialty provider is selected, the additional listing for specialties available will show so that the visitor may select a specific specialty and perform the search using this information.
Site visitors may also include their zip code and enter a mile range to view providers in close proximity to them. Site visitors navigating on a device with location services may choose to identify where they are and the website will use the location of their smart phone, laptop, desktop or tablet to return search result with providers displayed from closest to farthest in proximity to the zip code entered or location pinpointed.
SCL Health employed providers are indicated by the display on the search results listing and the provider profile of the SCL Health service mark, a small blue/green cross.
Who Maintains Provider Data and Provides the Search?
The SCL Health Marketing and Communications Digital department offers this service as part of the sclhealth.org website. The Credentials Verification Office (CVO) and each hospital's Medical Staff Office partner to ensure that the data on providers has been primary source verified.
NOTE: The "find a doctor" capabilities of the sclhealth.org website are designed to increase and enhance patient choice by identifying physicians in a relevant geography or specialty who are affiliated with SCL Health, but not to recommend or direct a patient to any particular employed or non-employed physician.
